I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Fascinated by native Florida wildlife at an early age, I remember pouring over illustrated encyclopedias of birds and awing at natural habitats in state parks. I remained interested in visual thinking and creating, attending a specialized public school for visual and performing arts. Under the tutelage of master printer, Erika Greenburg Scheinder, I was introduced to printmaking. I learned many processes such as stone lithography and intaglio. In 2003, I moved to Brooklyn,New York to earn a BFA in Printmaking at Pratt Institute..

My work has firm roots in drawing. My interest in drawing creates an opportunity to elaborate on an image in painting or through printmaking. I attempt to convey weight and mass with steady contours. After working as an assistant to Takashi Murakami,I became interested once again in painting. Developing enough hand eye coordination to translate detailed contours in paint, my recent work has also become very colorful. With the paintings, I intend to provide the viewer with areas of detail within the figures, while leaving the environments more static and diagrammatic. This aesthetic also makes reference to a dichotomy of flat deep space often achieved in seriography.

The characters, or “Players” are allegorical self-portraits, where in this hyper imaginative state, I may unfold more truth about the un-truth of selfhood. So that is to say, Players are drafted with the intention to reflect a certain mythology or fiction of self. Referencing the natural world and inspired by Buddhist concepts, I am interested in making scenes that deal with the causes of suffering. The act of making the work is a way for myself to transcend suffering. Currently, these images inspire a myriad of articulations be it in painting, prints, drawings or objects.
